Nomination Call for the National Police Award for Traffic Safety 2014

The National Police Award for Traffic Safety recognizes excellence, dedication and initiative in the field of traffic safety by enforcement agencies across Canada.  The purpose of this award is to identify and commend agencies and their enforcement personnel for their work to improve traffic safety, and to encourage others to implement new initiatives or publicize those in which they are already involved.  The award is specific to an outstanding achievement completed or reaching a significant milestone within the 2013 calendar year.  Best practices collected through the award process are shared broadly with Canada’s police community.

Nominations for the Achievement Award are received annually on behalf of those that have dedicated significant effort and time in the pursuit of road safety. The Achievement Award for Traffic Safety recognizes members of the policing community that have made significant outstanding contributions to traffic safety over a period of time.

The Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) and the Canada Safety Council are again pleased to request nominations for these two awards.

Criteria and Qualifications

National Police Award for Traffic Safety

  • Police, sheriffs, military, railway police agencies are eligible.
  • Groups within agencies such as divisions, sections and detachments are eligible.
  •  The nomination will be endorsed by a senior officer.
  • Nominee(s) will have made an outstanding contribution to road safety during the previous calendar year through educational, enforcement, training or community-based programs.
  • Submissions must show clear support for road safety initiatives and show results of that work.

Achievement Award for Traffic Safety.

  • Sworn, full-time Canadian federal, provincial and municipal police officers, including military and railway police services and sheriffs are eligible.
  • The nomination will be endorsed by a senior officer.
  • The nominee must have clearly devoted part of their career dedicated to furthering traffic safety initiatives.

How to Nominate

Nominations must be submitted to the Canada Safety Council by June 30, 2014

Electronic submissions are encouraged.  E-mail the form to Lewis Smith at the Canada Safety Council: media@safety-council.org

Support material such as videos, CDs and promotional material may be mailed separately to: Police Awards for Traffic, c/o Canada Safety Council, 1020 Thomas Spratt Place, Ottawa, Ontario K1G 5L5.  Please make reference to your electronic submission.

Judging and Presentation

The selection panel consists of members of the Traffic Committee of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police and the Canada Safety Council.

The awards will be presented during the 109th CACP Annual Conference in Victoria,  British Columbia in August 2014.
